Let Freedom Ring…with spoons

For the first time ever we hosted an Independence Day Cookout at our house this week.  I had a wonderful time preparing for the special event. I asked all of our guests to dress in red, white, and blue.  Believe it or not, they all did!  (Of course, I had to persuade my husband to wear his Army National Guard shirt that has an American Flag on it.)  I decorated the patio area with red, white, and blue streamers.  I tied red, white, and blue ribbon around some small mason jars and placed tea light candles in them.  I bought some red and blue citronella candles to keep the mosquitoes away.  I placed some red and white striped (Christmas) candles in larger glass containers surrounded by red and white mints in the middle of the tables.  I even painted the shed behind my house a “barn” red to match!!  I figured it wouldn’t be quite right without a signature silverware windchime with red, white, and blue.  Here are pictures of the windchime.  I will be posting it to my Etsy shop webpage.  And just for those of you that read this blog.  Here is a 20% discount code for my Twice As Loved Etsy Shop. { INDEPENDENCE2012 }

Jello and Ice Cream anyone???

My new windchime leaves me wishing for some Red and Orange Jello and a scoop of Ice Cream.  Wonder why?  Take a look for yourself.

This windchime was made with love by using upcycled antique measuring spoons and a Hagan ice cream scoop. The top of the windchime is a copper jello mold.

The spoons are securely attached to the Jello mold by fishing line. The fishing line is adorned with red beads and orange/white swirl beads.

This would make a great gift for any occasion.

Upcycled Silverware Windchime Teal Blue Red Beads

Making this upcycled gravy boat windchime at White Lake, NC made me think about all the “boat” rides I have gone on there or somewhere else.  Many days in my youth were spent on a boat in either Jordan Lake, NC or Badin Lake, NC.  Days were spent fishing, tubing, tanning, and relaxing.

Yes a gravy boat is quite different than a fishing or sports boat. But still the same the memories come back.

This windchime was made with love by using upcycled silverware and gravy boat.
There are two forks and two knives attached by fishing line. The line is adorned with red and teal blue beads. The tines of the forks have been bent for additional attraction.

The flower molds on the handles of the knives make this a great piece of art to hang in a garden. This windchime could be hung up inside or outside.

Silverware Windchime {Silver Platter Green Beads}

I enjoyed making this Silverware Windchime  {Silver Platter Green Beads} at White Lake, NC on vacation this week at our family’s house.  I was inspired to use the green beads because of the greenish tent glimmering in the lake water.  This windchime was so soothing to listen to as we swam nearby or sat on the pier at the Murray Lake House.  I imagine a buyer placing this on a pier by the water. Musical themed wind chimes.

I love to be able to create new things out of old things.  I recently had an order for a musical themed wind chime.  Well, for two, actually.  Here are the pictures of them.  They were a huge success and the customer, one of my fellow teachers, loved them.

I will be making more wind chimes to put in my shop this weekend.  I keep hearing that the more items you have in your shop the better.  So, I am going to try really hard to get about 10 more wind chimes made this weekend.  It will help that I don’t have to teach on Monday!  We are off for Presidents’ Day.  Perhaps I will be inspired to create patriotic themed wind chime in honor of Presidents’ Day.

Sugar Dish Topped Wind Chime

This is a one of a kind wind chime made with love by upcycling antique silverware with an antique silver plated sugar dish at the top. There is one serving spoon in the middle accompanied by two Tea stirring spoons and two forks. The tines on the forks have been twisted and bent while the whole forks have been sanded to give it a more unique look. The spoons have been bent and twisted as well. This wind chime is also decorated using black and red beads. The silverware and beads are held tighly to the creamer by sturdy fishing line.This would make a fabulous gift for someone who has “everything” or for the eco-friendly person in your life who likes interesting upcycled things.This would make a beautiful and unique Valentine’s Day gift for someone Special!

Copper Topped Wind Chime

In this slide show you can see a wind chime that I made by upcycling a copper cup and used silverware.  I decorated it with colorful beads.  This wind chime was bought by one of my first clients, (one of my cousins.)
